# A floor is 5 m long and 4 m wide. A square carpet of sides 3 m is laid on the floor. Find the area of the floor that is not carpeted.

**Solution:**

We will be using the area of the rectangle formula (length × breadth) to find the area of a room and the area of square formula ( side^{2}) to find the area of the carpet.

We have,

- A floor with dimensions 4 m width and 5 m length.
- A square carpet of side 3 m.

Area of the floor = length × breath

Area of the floor = 5 × 4

= 20 m^{2}

Area of the square carpet = 3 × 3

= 9 m^{2}

Now, we will be subtracting the square carpet area from the floor's area to get the area of the floor that is not carpeted.

Hence, the area of the floor that is not carpeted = 20 – 9

= 11 m^{2}

Thus, the area of the floor that is not carpeted is 11 m^{2}.

Maths NCERT Solutions Class 6 Chapter 10 Exercise 10.3 Question 8

## A floor is 5 m long and 4 m wide. A square carpet of sides 3 m is laid on the floor. Find the area of the floor that is not carpeted.

**Summary:**

It is given that a floor is 5 m long and 4 m wide also a square carpet of 3 m sides is laid on the floor. Thus, the area of the floor that is not carpeted is 11 square metre.
